Virginia Luise Foltz "Jinny" O'Brien

80, died on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Calling will be Thursday, March 19 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 34th and Central Ave., with a memorial service of the Witness to the Resurrection Friday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the church with calling at 1:00 p.m. A committal service for the family will be held earlier at the Crown Hill Mausoleum. Jinny was the daughter of the late H.F. and Luise Harris Foltz, she was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, graduating from Shortridge High School Class of 1946. Jinny attended MacMurray College for Women for two years, and graduated from Butler in 1950. Following college, she taught kindergarten at School #9 and lower grades at Tudor Hall. Jinny married Wm. H. O�Brien, Jr. in 1952 and became a homemaker and volunteer worker. In past years, Jinny was active in numerous organizations; Junior League, officer and board member; Julia Jameson Health Camp, board member; Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnus, Butler�s Gamma Chapter board member; School #84 PTA board member for 18 years; Shortridge High PTA, board member; and Alpha Tau Latriean. She provided volunteer services to: Crossroads, the Halfway House of the Mental Health Association, Brebeuf Parents, Girl Scout Troop #84, Julia Jameson Camp Auxiliary, and a United Fund solicitor for 20 years. Jinny was currently a board member of the Quest for Excellence Foundation. In her honor, in 1995, the Jinny O�Brien Health Clinic was founded and operated by Q4E/Gennesaret. She was also a member of The Players and Contemporary Club. Jinny grew up in Tabernacle Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, and served on numerous committees. In all of her volunteer associations, she gave the Indianapolis community her kind spirit, loyalty, and dedication. It was an honor and privilege to know Jinny. She will be missed by family and friends. Jinny is survived by her children: daughter, Karen Luise O�Brien Fanning, son, Timothy W. O�Brien (Amy); 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters: Joan Luise Foltz Shoptaugh (Mrs. A. Glenn), Betsy Luise Foltz Shasberger (Mrs. Robert); brother, Howard F. �Buzz� Foltz, Jr. (Patti). She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Wm. H. O�Brien, Jr.; son, Thomas E. O�Brien; sister, Margery Luise Foltz Allerdice (Mrs. John G.); aunts, Punch Harris (Mrs. Edward, Jr.), and Jeannette Harris Loer (Mrs. James E.). Memorial contributions may be made to Quest for Excellence, 2051 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, 46202, or Tabernacle Presbyterian Church.
