Orlando "Andy" Cavallaro

Orlando “Andy” Cavallaro, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away October 1, 2018 at Crown Pointe Living Center. Andy was born March 1, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents were Pietro and Christina (Colarocco) Cavallaro. He was a graduate of Holy Cross Grade School and Tech High School. Andy was married sixty-four years to Mary (Mirabile) Cavallaro who passed on September 14, 2010. Andy proudly served as a Roadie for the Glenn Miller Orchestra during World War II. He served as an Electrical Quality Inspector at Naval Avionics for thirty-five years retiring in 1980. Andy then worked as a Sales Associate for ACE Hardware for eighteen years. He was not retired yet! He then drove vehicles for Bud Wolf Chevrolet for a few years. Andy enjoyed keeping busy and gardened until his early '90s. He also was a big band aficionado and always said that big band music would make a comeback. He also was a very social person and was a mall walker at Eastgate and Washington Square Malls for many years. Andy was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church since 1950 and served on the Parish Council and Men's Club. His biggest church accomplishment was being an usher for 63 years!! Andy's commanding presence lit up a room! He was very meticulous about all tasks he performed whether it be a work assignment, church duty, garden detail or maintaining his car in tip-top shape. Andy is survived by two daughters, Rita Chapman of Indianapolis and Linda (Floyd) Vandagriff of Greenfield, Indiana. Grandchildren are Ashley (Dan) Spence, Kristen (Josh) Moore and Josh (Kayla Carlock) Vandagriff of Greenfield, Indiana. Great grandchildren are Kyle Vandagriff and Brantley Moore of Greenfield. His youngest brother, Pete, age 95, resides in Greenwood, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Tony; and son-in-law, David Chapman. Calling will be Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E Washington St. A rosary will be said at 6:30 at Shirley Brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 East 13th Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46201. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church.
