Mary Louise Deal Johnson

Mary Louise Deal Johnson, 94, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 29, 2026, after a brief illness. Born March 13, 1932, in Indianapolis, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Broadus and Edith Jones Deal. On September 1, 1950, Mary married the love of her life, Edward Otis Johnson, and together they shared 61 beautiful years of marriage until Ed’s passing in 2011. Their life together was marked by love, faith, and a home filled with warmth, laughter, and hospitality. Mary loved Jesus wholeheartedly, and her faith shaped every part of her life. For more than 60 years, she was a member of Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene, where she served in children’s, youth, and women’s ministries. Mary supported the work of On A Mission and Frankfort Camp Ministries, places dear to her heart. Mary was known for her extraordinary gift of hospitality. She welcomed others with generosity, warmth, and a genuine love that made people feel at home. Her delicious cookies were legendary, her party-planning skills unmatched, and her enthusiasm contagious. She had a special way of encouraging others – lifting spirits, offering kind words, and celebrating every milestone with joy. Family was Mary’s greatest earthly treasure. She delighted in her four children, her 13 grandchildren, and her 22 great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than cheering them on at sports events, church and school programs, musicals, and family gatherings. She was their biggest fan and steady encourager. Visitation will be Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene, 9401 E. 25th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Ed Johnson; and her son, Jeff Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Caryol Meyer Shepherd (Carl Shepherd); sons, Phil Johnson and Kyle Johnson (Karen); her daughter-in-law, Dana Johnson; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Doris Weinman (Chet). Mary leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness and joyful service.
