Mary E. Blume

Mary E. Blume, 99, home at last in the arms of her Savior, widow of Ernest M. Blume, passed away in Sun City West, AZ on May 24, 2018. She resided in Indianapolis until moving to Sun City West, Arizona in 2001. While there, she devoted her time and energy to sewing hundreds of quilts for needy children and making hundreds more comfort pillows for Hospice patients, American Soldiers in Iraq, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department’s emergency care programs. During her life in Indiana, she was a homemaker and decorative seamstress, specializing in designer draperies for several Interior Designers in the area. She volunteered at Community East Hospital and held membership in the Woodruff Place and Eastminster United Presbyterian Churches, and the Post Road Christian Church. In Arizona, she attended the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church. She leaves behind two children, Sharon L. Altopp (Richard) of Sun City West, AZ and Robert K. Blume (Kathy) of Anderson, IN; five grandchildren, Pastor R. Scott Blume (Sherrie) of Tulsa, OK, Douglas W. Blume (Karyn) of Spring Arbor, MI, Rev. Scott Jackson (Kim) of Knoxville, TN, Rev. Peter Jackson (Paulette) of Atlanta, GA, and Rev. Jeffrey Jackson (Maura) of Bakersfield, CA; 11 great-grandchildren, Chad Blume (Cassie) of Tulsa, OK, Caleb Blume of Tulsa, OK, Hannah and Tyler Blume of Spring Arbor, MI, Abby Palmer (Landon) of Marquette, MI, Emma Jackson of Nashville, TN, Anna Grace Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Benito and Joshua Jackson of Bakersfield, CA, Ben Jackson (Jacquelyn) of South Carolina, and Emily Halliday (Dawson) of Knoxville, TN; one great-great-granddaughter, Esther Halliday; sister, Frances Smith of Lake Worth, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest M. Blume in 1991; her parents, Oscar and Nora Glover Doughty; eight brothers, Raymond, Arthur, Harold, Eugene, Richard, Earl, Charles, and Oscar Doughty; and six sisters, Alberta Doughty, Margaret Smith, Dorothy Schiewer, Delores Hook, Virginia Waltz and Mildred Melton. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory are suggested to Gideon’s Memorial Bible.
