Lucille E. Peterson

Of Greenwood, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, died peacefully on May 7, 2015. She was born on November 13, 1914 in Omaha, Nebraska. Her parents were Chester and Anna Mitchell. Lucille graduated from the University of Omaha and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She moved to Indianapolis with her first husband, Elmer Peterson. They raised three children and were married for 25 years. After Elmer’s death, she remarried Victor Peterson, and they enjoyed 46 years together. After raising her children, she pursued her Master’s Degree at Butler University. Lucille taught English and Journalism at Franklin Central High School and chaperoned a group of students to Europe. Lucille’s husband, Victor, passed away in 2013. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Conley; and has a close relationship with her two nieces, Marilyn Perry and Nancy Davis. Lucille is survived by her children, Karen L. Kaser (Dave) of Holmes Beach, FL, Sue A. Zunker of Highland, MI, and John M. Peterson (Tina) of Greenwood, IN; and stepchildren, John V. Peterson (Shama) and Sonata Abbot (Abraham). She had six grandchildren, David Kaser (Cindy) of Carmel, IN, Deann Patena of Crown Point, IN, Jennifer Zamiara (Dan) of Highland, MI, Katherine Barker (Ryan) of Winchester, IN, and James Brooks (deceased). Lucille was also gifted with five step-grandchildren, Justin Merszei, Trevor Merszei, Christi Porucznik, Emily Newman and Aseen Peterson. She loved watching her great-grandchildren grow up and enjoyed watching their activities---Megan Kaser, Allison Kaser, Claire Patena, Travis Hostetler, Jordyn Hostetler, Owen Zamiara, Brookelyn Zamiara, Mason Barker, Molly Barker, Kevin McCammack, and Erin McCammack. In her retirement years she had the opportunity to fulfill her passion in several philanthropic interests. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Indianapolis Garden Club, the Indiana Historical Society, Howe High School PTA and Goodwill Service Guild. She was named National Goodwill Volunteer of the Year in 1993. Lucille was always an active person---enjoying sewing, knitting, crocheting as well as swimming, camping and traveling. Lucille and Victor traveled to 85 countries throughout the world. There will be a visitation Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. noon at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. A private family service will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery
