Florence Carolyn Norris was born on February 17, 1914, in Indianapolis, to Will C. and Alma J. (Foltzenlogel) Norris. She was their second daughter. Florence's father nicknamed his daughter "Peggy" after seeing a resemblence to the child actress in "Peg of my Heart". She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and attended Woodruff Place Baptist Church, where she was baptized. While attending Woodruff Place, her sevice project was corresponding with a serviceman, while he was serving our country. Luman Wilson was quite smitten with his pen pal, and courted and eventually married her November 27, 1946. They were blessed with two children, Ruth Ann and David. She enjoyed numerous hobbies, gardening, photography, and cake making to name a few.One of her nephews recalled times in his childhood, posing for the camera and the lengthy experience to get it just right.My favorite cake she made was a cheese cake for the 4th of July, she topped the cheese cake with blueberries and cherries, they were perfectly aligned creating an American flag effect.David told me even after he had moved away from home, and the jar of cherries had been replaced numerous times, she still kept a note attached to the jar "David stay out".In the late 70's she was diagnosed with Breast cancer. She had been diagnosed early and with surgery, no other treatment was needed. Later she again was diagnosed with cancer this time of the colon, and again she underwent surgery, and survived a second time.In October of 1995, the love of her life died, and she moved in with her son's family. Shortly, thereafter, she joined Emerson Avenue Baptist Church. She helped design bookmarks for a bible school class and made bows and favors for her granddaughter's wedding. Each child received a special cake created just for them at every birthday.In 1999, Peggy had a bowel obstruction and came through the surgery, but had developed ARDS. Treatment was to induce a comma, so her body could rest during the healing process. She was hospitalized for 7-8 months. Returning home, she spent another three years there, before breaking a bone in her leg and having to go to a nursing home. She has lived in Community Nursing and Rehab for hte past 9 years. In February of 2012, Peggy celebrated her 98th birthday. On December 4, 2012, Peggy departed for another home with her Savior Jesus Christ. Although we will miss her, she is busy getting things ready for all of us. Thank you for helping us celebrate her life.Visitation will be Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel, 4565 East 10th Street, Indianapolis, with funeral services Monday at 11:00 a.m.Peggy is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Wilson and David (Paula) Wilson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nephews; and one niece.Peggy's husband Luman J. Wilson; and two sisters, Helen Buchanan and Alma Lou Wilcox, preceded her in death.
