Elaine K. (Baker) Singer

Elaine K. (Baker) Singer, 85, lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away at home on October 26, 2024. She was born July 26, 1939 to the late Virgil and Helen Baker. Elaine was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and Indiana Business College. She was employed and retired from Univar. Elaine was a 52-year member of the American Business Women’s Association, and the O.E.S. Englewood Chapter #48, Indianapolis. Elaine had a passion for March Madness College Basketball, Little League World Series an a love of reading. She was a long-time volunteer at Jeremiah Gray Edison Elementary School as a reading coach. She loved watching Hallmark Movies, playing Euchre and Bingo along with many other activities at Perry Senior Services Center. A lover of nature, Elaine enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and all seasons, along with many family vacations especially when visiting U.S. National Parks. Elaine had an energy for life until her last days. She was independent, determined, optimistic, accepting, and a giving heart to everyone. Well known for her enthusiasm, she enjoyed meeting new people and was known to reach out to newcomers at the Senior Center. She touched the lives of so many during her time with us. Visitation will be Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Good Sheperd Chapel, 9700 N. Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Minister and lifelong family member Robert Dennis Williams will officiate. Elaine is survived by her sons, Michael William Singer and James Richard Deffendall; nephews, Bradley (Amanda) Baker and Brian Baker; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Brent (Kacie), Kyle (Caitlyn), Noah, Kennedi and Jada Baker; and a great-great-niece and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Singer; and her brother, Edward Baker. Michael and James would like to express special thanks to Dale Singer, Judy Eppich and Pam Whited for the special care given to Elaine; such loving sons, they will miss her dearly. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to the Perry Senior Services, 6901 Derbyshire Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227 (a 501© (3) non-profit whose volunteers use their own vehicles to freely provide essential transportation services to seniors.) Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
