Ann Marie Doles

Ann Marie Doles, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 3, 2018. She was born in Havana, Cuba January 3, 1929 to the late Frederick and Anna (Singer) Korn. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene “Gene” Doles in 2015. She was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School and was employed as a school secretary for St. Simon,IPS 102 and Forrest Manor. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Rd., with visitation one hour prior. Ann is survived by a daughter, Suzanne M. Lyons (Jack) and a son, Joseph E. Doles (Linda); five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to StillWater Adult Day Care at Castleton United Methodist Church. Ann’s life was hallmarked by her intense love of family and faith. She was the middle of three children with an older brother Karl Korn (deceased) and younger brother Fredrick (Fritz) Korn. Although born in Havana, Cuba, her mother was Hungarian and her father, German. The family immigrated to the United States when Ann was in elementary school. After graduating from Lawrenceburg HS, Ann entered the work force and devoted her time to caring for her mother and younger brother. She was introduced to Gene Doles of Greensburg, Indiana on a blind date and they were married in 1953. After a short stay in Crawfordsville, IN, for Gene’s work, they relocated to Indianapolis where they remained. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Gene’s passing in 2015. Gene and Ann were blessed with two adopted children, Joe and Susan, who became the focus of her life. Joe attended St. Simon School on Roy Road and Ann took a position there as a school secretary. She would continue this career in the IPS school system at school 102 and Forest Manor Middle School. She enjoyed being the face of the schools she served and everyone who entered the building was greeted with her signature smile. Ann and Gene were members of St. Simon Catholic Church for many years and later, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Fortville, Indiana. Ann’s faith ministry included working with the women’s group making rosaries by hand, thousands of which have been distributed all over the world. In retirement, Ann and Gene enjoyed traveling and being involved in as many family events as possible. This included spending time with her 5 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren: Suzi Abell (Charles) sons Hanley and Will, Nick Lyons (Nicole) children Emma and Max, Jordan Lyons (Amanda) daughter Vada, Tyler Lyons, and Sarah Doles. The last years of Ann’s life were spent in the home of Jack and Susan Lyons cared for by her loving family and caregivers Jacque McNulty, Linda Snider, and Barb McCall. She attended StillWater Adult Day Center three days a week and enjoyed making crafts, baking, and music.
