William Dale Swindell

William D. Swindell, 61, of Indianapolis, passed away September 6, 2008. He was born June 21, 1947 in Choctaw County, Mississippi to Guither and Ruby Sprayberry Swindle, who have preceded him in death. Bill graduated from Long Beach High School in Long Beach Mississippi in 1965. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. On October 26, 1968, he married his wife of nearly forty years, Linda Staffelbach. He attended the University of Hawaii and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre Medical studies. Bill's professional life was one dedicated to improving the lives of those in his own community, his country and the world. He served in various capacities with the American and International Red Cross, including positions in development, disaster relief and regional administration. His talents also were used in the aid of various private schools and public service organizations. At the end of his career, he served as Vice-President of Development for Boys Town, Nebraska. Bill was a member of Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church, Rotary International, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 9 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church, 10350 Glaser Way, with a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Swindell, his daughters, Kari Anne Gallagher, husband Gerard, and Sara Marie Sanders, husband Christopher; and four grandchildren, Gracie, Katie and Declan Gallagher, and Reid Sanders; four brothers, Jimmy (Frankie), Tommy (Dell), Robert (Patsy), Danny (LaVonne), and one sister, Barbara Richey (Curtis). He also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss greatly their "Uncle Bill."
