    William "Darris" Massey

    March 15, 1937 - May 12, 2022

William “Darris” Massey, 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on May 12th, 2022. He was born on March 15th, 1937 in Edmondson County, Kentucky to the late James Melvin Massey and Alta Mae (Cardwell) Massey. He had recently made a profession of faith in Christ, followed in believer's baptism and became a member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church. Affectionally referred to as "Pappy", he was a gentle, soft spoken man with a kind and giving spirit. He worked hard to support his family as an industrial heat treater throughout his working years and eventually retired from Naval Avionics. He was an avid pool player who typically beat his competitors and he loved to play just about any game of cards, especially his weekly card game, Hearts, with his kids. At the annual Massey Reunion, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and corn hole. He was also Head Supervisor and a major supporter of his sons, Dwain, Willie and grandson, Duke, during the summer demolition derby season. Visitation will be Sunday, May 15th, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Monday, May 16th, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington Street. Rev. Todd Curtis, Lead Pastor at Burge Terrace Baptist Church is to officiate. Burial services will be held at Acton Cemetery. Having just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on March 9th, 2022, he is survived by his wife Peggy Sue (Curry); his 3 children, James "Willie" Massey (Michelle) of Greenfield, Indiana, Alta "Joetta" Julian and Kevin "Dwain" Massey (Ruth), both of Indianapolis, Indiana; 8 grandchildren - Duke (Jennifer) Farmer, Clinton (Alissa) Julian, Reba (Will) Mount, Kevin Massey, Rachel Massey, Marissa Massey, Rosalind Massey, and William "Devin" Massey; 4 great-grandchildren - Madison Mount, Hayden Mount, Gavin Farmer, Haven Peed and one on the way; his sister, Matha Jean Davis (Terry) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; a brother, Melvin "Jerry" Massey (Brenda) of Brownsville, Kentucky and an entire host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Junior (C.J.) Massey, Lemuel Ray Massey, Denzil A. (Denny) Massey, Lendel "Roy" Massey, Edgar Bertrum Massey, and Alvin Terry Massey; as well as 2 sisters, Maudie Emoline Massey and Jeanetta Faye (Doyle) Massey. PALLBEARERS: Duke Farmer, Clinton Julian, Kevin Massey, William "Devin" Massey, Roy Alan Massey, Doug Massey, Garry Curry, Jr., and Greg Curry.
