Joyce Ann Orick

Joyce Ann Orick 79, of New Palestine, passed away June 24, 2021 at IU West Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in April of 1942 in Indianapolis to parents Bernard and Margaret Cox and graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1960. Joyce spent her entire career at Community East Hospital as a Clinical Tech and worked the majority of that time in the maternity ward. She loved working with mothers and newborns and was especially happy to work shifts when her grandsons were born. In retirement, she enjoyed trying new recipes, various crafts, decorating her home, card club, shopping, some gardening, and spending time with friends and family. If it was your birthday, you could look forward to Joyce planning a special gathering with a delicious home-made meal featuring your favorites. She would look for bargains and special gifts all year in preparation for Christmas and loved holiday celebrations. Joyce spoiled her grandkids and her pets, especially little Teddy, who was her beloved yorkie-poo companion for the last few years. She was kind, loyal, and loving and will be greatly missed. Joyce was devoted to her son, daughter and three grandchildren, all of whom live in Indiana. Her son, John Clayton Orick, and his wife Evie have a daughter named Kaitlyn (Katie) Arlene. Her daughter, Lynne Ann Orick Dennis, and her husband, and her husband Tom are parents to Thomas Lee Dennis Jr. and Clayton Lee Dennis. Joyce is also survived by Bob Cox (older brother) in Florida and his children (Robert, Kevin and Kendra) and grandchildren. Her nephew, Dr. David Cox, resides in Arizona and is the son of Joyce’s oldest brother, Bernie and wife Jessie, both now deceased. She has extended family in the Indianapolis area and was ever grateful for special connections with aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday, June 28th, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.
