Jerry R. Hurley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jerry R. Hurley, 79, of Fishers, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, at St. Vincent Heart Center, Carmel, Indiana after an arduous fight with congestive heart failure. He was born September 2, 1942 in Indianapolis to William and Dorothy (Begley) Hurley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Curtis Hurley. Jerry leaves behind to remember him fondly his wife, Nancy (Niehaus) Hurley; his daughter, Jennifer Fairfax (Tim Soltis); his son, Timothy Hurley (partner, Jamie Savage); his stepdaughter, Kristen Bragg (Darrell); his granddaughter, Caroline Fairfax (partner, Todd Norman; his grandson, Benjamin Fairfax (Brittany); and a fortunate group of extended family and friends. Following his father’s footsteps, Jerry was an Indianapolis Firefighter from 1968 through 1981, when a firefighting accident ended his career. He cherished that time in his life. Jerry went on to run his own small businesses, including Trans Chem Water delivery company. Jerry embraced every new facet of life with gusto and optimism. He became a dedicated genealogist, determined to prove every detail he could find about people, places and events involving his own family history and others around him. He and Nancy also explored the United States, Mexico, and Canada in their RV, living on the road for ten years finding new places to see and people to meet from Alaska to Los Algodones… Jerry had an inquiring mind and a perceptive personality which led people to love him. There were many smiles when he was around. There will be a private graveside service. A gathering will be held in Jerry’s honor beginning at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the home of Tim Hurley at 13537 E. 116th St., Fishers, with food served from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the ACLU and/or IFD Local 416, Clothe-A-Child Program, 748 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46204. Final arrangements and care are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
