J.W. Lyons

September 19, 1934 - February 1, 2022

J.W. Lyons, 87, of Indianapolis, departed this earthly life to begin an eternal life with his Lord and Savior on February 1, 2022. He was born September 19, 1934 in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Ernest and Judy Sampson Lyons, he had 12 brothers and sisters. J.W. attended Western University in Bowling Green, KY, and proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. He married his wife Rachel Gravens, June 7, 1964 in Livingston, TN, and was a Quality Assurance Manager for Allison Gas Turbine for 30 years, retiring in 1992. J.W. joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church by letter from New Design Missionary Baptist Church July 2, 1969, and was ordained as a Deacon on May 23, 1971, where he loved and served his Lord and his church family. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 12 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel, 3333 East Thompson Road. J.W. is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
