Helen Leauty Scherrer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Helen Leauty Scherrer, 99, of Indianapolis, passed away July 1, 2022. She was born April 13, 1923 to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Johannes) Leauty. Helen was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and attended Butler University. Helen will be remembered for her faithfulness, kindness, generosity, and love. She was an active volunteer at St. Lawrence, St. Monica, Guardian Angel Guild, and various other organizations. Helen and Leo were members of the Knights of Columbus and related community groups. She is also loved by her Bunco group, St. Ann's discussion group, and many friends. Helen was an avid Colts, Pacers, and Purdue fan. She fed birds and squirrels, donated to charity, and always gave love to others. Helen is renowned for her omelettes, mac and cheese, and chocolate chip cookies. She is quoted as saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all", and "patience is a virtue." Helen was a friend to the friendless. Her family was her life, and her life was a prayer and a gift to all. A visitation will be held in her honor from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4650 Shadeland Avenue, followed by the Celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 a.m. Helen is survived by her children, Joseph Scherrer, Mary Skillern, Susan Day, Andrea Espich (Dave), Stephen Scherrer (Beth), and Jane Bremer (Scott); grandchildren; Matthew, Kevin, Kaitlin, Robyn, Jacob, Cierra, Marissa, Megan, Wesley, Tom, Olivia, Molly, and Will; great-grandchildren, Kyerin, Laila, Abram, Avalyn, Leo, Roman, Blair, Peyton, Sienna, and Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo Scherrer; sisters, Lorraine Cantlon and Rosemary Wolf. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in her honor to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Special Olympics, or Susan Komen.
