Passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 at the age of 91. He was the son of Fred and Helen Croner and was born on February 20, 1929. Fred grew up in Indianapolis and was a 1947 graduate of Broad Ripple High School. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Butler University where he received his undergraduate degree. He then attended the IU School of Law and graduated in 1955. Fred was a member of the military and proudly served in the U.S. Army. He began his work career as a public defender for Babcock and Lewis and later worked for the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. In 1963 Fred began working at Eli Lilly where he enjoyed a successful career in Corporate Law. He retired in 1991 as Lilly’s Assistant Secretary and Assistant General Counsel. Fred loved history, golf, travel, and was an avid Butler basketball fan. He and his wife, Alice were members of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church and have been happily married for 63 years. Fred exemplified the traits of those who were “The Greatest Generation” by the way he lived his life. He was extremely courageous, honest, generous and hard working. He was a man of true faith and had a great love of country. Fred was a faithful friend to all who knew him. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. His unconditional love is the legacy he left to them and is a gift beyond measure. Fred is survived by his wife, Alice; brother, David Croner; cousin, Larry Clark; daughters, Cindy Croner Corey (John) and Cathy Croner Campbell (Matt); granddaughters, Christy Corey Clampitt (Shane) and Megan Campbell; grandson, John Frederick Corey (Brittany); and great-granddaughter, Madeline Mae Corey. There will be a private family celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
