Ezra Joshua Wellington
December 3, 2005 - March 1, 2022
Ezra Joshua Wellington, 16, of Fishers, IN died March 1, 2022 at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis, Indiana. Ezra was born on December 3, 2005 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is survived by parents Joshua and Katherine Wellington, siblings Silver (14), Oscar (13), Lucy (8) and grandparents Rollie and Kay Wellington and Kons and Pam Kuschnir. He is also survived by Uncles and Aunts: Susan (Kuschnir) & Grant Mussman, Michael Kuschnir & Eden Reiner, Luke & Karen Wellington, Katie (Wellington) & PJ Madding, and Great Aunt Nancy Stroh. Cousins: Eva, Arthur, & Jackie Mussman; Charlotte Kuschnir; Emma, Maddie, & Colin Wellington; and Anna, Sam, & Nate Madding. Ezra attended the Fortune Academy in Indianapolis, a comprehensive school dedicated to educating students with language learning differences to become competent and confident life-long learners. Ezra loved this school where his favorite subjects were science and math. He also acted in each annual school play in the Performing Arts program. Ezra enjoyed Robotics Club, Lego Club, and Pokemon Club. Ezra was a member of Boy Scout Troop 199 in Fishers and (although slightly coerced by his father) came to enjoy camping. What he really loved though was playing games on his iPad and computer. He was a master builder of worlds within Minecraft and an ace at Fortnight, even taking on his first job as an online Fortnight coach. He would happily spend hours tapping away at his screen in his room, lost in the bliss of virtual worlds. He loved music and had an eclectic range of artists that he enjoyed including Marshmello, AJR, Calvin Harris, and Alan Walker among many others. Family vacations were always a highlight with his favorite places being Vermont, Sanibel Island, and Arizona. Ezra was keenly aware of his mortality and had an innate appreciation of life because of this. He beautifully expressed this knowledge in several creative writing examples at school. He also had a sharp wit that he would often bring out with deft timing to the mirth of his family, friends, and teachers. Ezra was born with a heart defect and had open heart surgeries at birth, 6 months, and age 2. He was an inpatient at Riley Children’s Hospital for part of last year and all of this year until his passing in anticipation of a heart transplant. Our thanks to the amazing staff at Riley Hospital for Children. Ezra's gentle spirit and tenacity as he awaited a potential heart transplant touched his caregivers and his Fortune Academy family. Their support was extraordinary. Arrangements are being handled by Shirley Brothers Mortuaries & Crematory, 9900 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46038.
