    Dr. Ernest V. Copple

    January 6, 1925 - November 30, 2021

    Indianapolis - 96, passed away November 30, 2021. He was born January 6, 1925, in Centralia, Illinois to the late Floyd J. and Lula Norton Copple. Upon graduating from Centralia High School, Ernie proudly served as a U.S. Marine Sargent during World War II. Ernie received his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University, his Master’s Degree from Washington University, and his Doctorate from Indiana University. He married his soulmate Shirley Jackson, December 24, 1954, and she preceded him in death January 7, 2021. Ernie was the principal of John Strange Elementary School in Washington Twp. for 31 years, retiring in 1990. Ernie received many accolades, including an award for Principal of the Year. He was a 67-year member of Calvary Tabernacle, where he served in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent, Nursing Home Outreach Coordinator, and Board Member of Calvary Christian School. He had a generous heart for serving others. He loved people, especially children, and always saw the best in every person and situation. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 7, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Tabernacle, 902 Fletcher Avenue. Ernie touched the lives of countless people as an educator and true friend, but his greatest impact was as a devoted and exemplary “Daddy” and “Poppa” to his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his loving children, Cheryl A. Thomas (Jeffrey), Daniel R. Copple (Julie) and Cynthia L. Burzynski (Steven); grandchildren, Andrew S. Thomas, Brent A. Thomas (Rachel), Stacie K. Cole (David), Adam B. Thomas, Michael G. Copple (Sara), Caleb N. Thomas, Riley S. Burzynski, Joshua A. Thomas, Ellie T. Burzynski, Haydn J. Burzynski and Mason S. Burzynski; and great-grandson, Brayden Thomas. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alfred Copple, Clarence Copple, Raymond Copple, Opal Rody, Earl Copple, David Copple and Ruby Copple.
