Charles Drayton Praed Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Charles Drayton Praed, 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away December 25, 2021. He was born January 14, 1935 in Indianapolis to the late Jack Gay Praed and Rosalie Clark Praed. Chuck was a graduate of Shortridge High School where he was the State Wrestling Champion. He received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University where he also excelled in wrestling becoming a Big Ten State Champion twice, and ultimately he was inducted into the Indiana State Wrestling Hall of Fame. Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves and began a career in teaching and coaching, first at Hamilton Tech where every player he coached went on to State competition, Valparaiso High School and eventually ended up at Broad Ripple High School. Chuck later formed his own residential painting company, Chuck Praed Painting and Contracting. Chuck was formerly married to Carole Brown Praed with whom he had four children. He then married Martha Louise Kingen in 1979 until his death, and they were both former members of Castleview Church. Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Road. Praed; children, Cherie Praed Zimmerman (husband, Brian), Cathy Praed Lamarca (husband, Kevin), Michael Drayton Praed (wife, Sherry) and Jennifer Carole Praed; stepsons, Kent Douglas Lee (wife, Yelena) and Kevin Dennis Lee (wife, Dawn); grandchildren, Laura Tonkin (husband, Jay), Brian Praed (wife, Mandy) and Jessica Ester; and great-grandchildren, Joel Tonkin and Julian Tonkin. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Praed, Jack Praed and George Praed; and stepson, Sam Lee.
