Billy Moore

Billy Moore, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away January 25, 2016. He was born December 14, 1927 in Lone Wolf, OK, to the late Bob E. and Lavena King Moore. Billy attended North East High School in Oklahoma City, before attending the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in engineering. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and the University of Oklahoma Rifling Team, and served in the Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, United States Navy, and was a Captain in the United States Air Force. Before his retirement from Delco in Kokomo, IN, where he worked as a manager of semiconductor engineering, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America on many levels and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service as an adult leader who impacted the lives of youths throughout the council. Billy married his first wife, Barbara Stark, and had two children, Alan Dean Moore and David Brian Moore during their marriage. After her death, Billy married Barbara Otterman, and they would have celebrated 33 years of marriage this November. Billy was an active member of Venice Presbyterian Church in Venice, FL, and he helped design and build a new annex on their campus. He was dedicated to helping his community, family and friends with anything they needed and worked to improve the lives of those around him. He was an avid golfer and member of Jacaranda Country Club, Venice, FL, for almost 20 years. For many years he and his friends spent their days golfing and enjoying one another’s company. When Billy was not golfing, he enjoyed cooking for his family, working in the yard, and watching plenty of football with his sons. He was also an avid hunter and a member of the NRA. Billy was a smart and extremely loving many during his 88 years of life while he battled cancer and illness with courage and strength for many years. Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Moore and his wife, Marguerite Moore. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Alan (Rene) and David (Joan); stepsons, Todd and Greg; five grandchildren, Leslie, Michael, Lauren, Angela and Emalee; and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several relatives and loving friends. His family extends their sincerest gratitude for support and love during the last year during Billy and Barbara’s move to Indianapolis, and through their current mourning. Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd., Fishers, IN.
