Betty Ann Elliott

Betty Ann (Elizabeth Anastatia) Smith Elliott, Was born to Thomas J. and Hazel B. Smith in Chicago, IL, November 12, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis B. “Bill” Elliott; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Elliott; her parents; and her brothers, Thomas and William. Betts was the proud mother of Stacia Ellis (Jay), William (Cynthia), Thomas, Christopher (Tylene) and Maribeth. She was the grandmother of eight; and the great-grandmother of 12. Betts was a graduate of Stephens College and Northwestern University. She was involved in community and school organizations while raising her five active children. She then enjoyed her children’s children and played an active role in their lives. Betts was a founding member of Breath of Life Guild (Cystic Fibrosis). She was active in her church, St. Christopher’s Episcopal, Carmel, IN, their Altar Guild, and the Tuesday afternoon Bible Study Group. She also belonged to WINS (Women in Neighborhood Service). Betts was very active, outgoing, and sociable. Athletic her entire life, Betts was a proud member of OLGA (Old Ladies Golf Association), playing well into her late 80’s. She also bowled into her late 80’s. Betts enjoyed snow skiing as well as curling earlier in life. Other interests included playing bridge, board games, and the slots, upon occasion. She loved traveling with her school friends, known as The Pearls (A String of Pearls), to multiple U.S., European and Asian destinations. Betts also visited family in the Philippines and went on two archaeological digs in Cyprus. Betty Ann Elliott was a true Patriot and will be remembered for her clever wit, her sense of what is right, and her caring for family beyond compare. Visitation will be Monday, June 27, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 1402 West Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032. Betts would be honored if, in lieu of flowers, all donations got to the Lupus Foundation and/or St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
