Barbara "Elaine" Willis Nelson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elaine Willis Nelson, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away July 17, 2022. She was born January 25, 1945 in Boston, MA, to the late Byron and Virginia Willis. Elaine was a 1963 graduate of Warren Central High School. She received her bachelor's degree and masters degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. Elaine married Arnold K. Nelson, Jr., August 17, 1968 and he preceded her in death June 4, 2011. Elaine career in education began as an English teacher for IPS, then as a school media specialist for Stonybrook Middle School and as a faculty advisor to the school newspaper for many years. She has been retired for the past 20 years. Elaine was a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church where she volunteered helping with bulletins and newsletters. She was also a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Chorus and the Eastside Optimist Club. Visitation will be Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and available by clicking on the following link: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/1089892642 Elaine is survived by her children, Nancy Kathleen Logue and Jeffrey Arnold Nelson; grandchildren, Nathan Everett Logue and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Logue; sister, Susan Courtney (Craig); sister-in-law, Susan Manning; brother and sister-in-law, Norm Nelson (Mary Sue); and cousins, Phyllis Melampy, Jan Delmonico and Will Burgess. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
