Alberta K. Peters

Alberta K. Peters, Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Alberta K. Smith Peters, peacefully left this world for her heavenly home on December 27, 2024, at the age of 103. Born to James and Lulu Kidwell on June 14, 1921, in Shoals, Indiana. Alberta was the third of seven children of which all preceded her in death. As her time grew near, she shared many fond memories of her mother and father and her childhood growing up on their farm in Shoals. Alberta met the love of her life and beloved husband, Ernest D. Smith who preceded her in death exactly 51 years earlier on December 27, 1973. Alberta was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family and community. Alberta leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to her Catholic Faith. She is survived by her only daughter, Linda LaMere (Michael); her three grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Gaga”: Amy Sprouse (Chad), Melissa Cross (Derrick), and Chris Scheich (Michelle); and her cherished five great-grandchildren, Dawone Spencer II, Kaley Sprouse, and Connor, Morgan, and Cameron Scheich. Alberta was self-employed until the age of 90 with business ventures most notably in rentals and pedicuring for the elderly. Alberta lived a vibrant and fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, square dancing, and playing cards with her friends and was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church. Alberta will forever be remembered for her lively spirit, love of dance of which up until a few short months ago she would still break out into, always being silly and fun but most importantly the love she had for her family and God. Alberta most definitely discovered the secret to a long, happy life and we will be forever grateful to have had so many wonderful years with her and the memories we will cherish and pass on. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 4720 E. 13th Street, with a private burial after where she will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with her husband.
