Yvon Zidor, It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvon Zidor who left this world peacefully in his sleep on August 12, 2024. Yvon was born February 7, 1962, in the serene town of Thomassique, Haiti, to his late parents, Jeanne and Jacque Zidor. Yvon grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and a natural inclination toward helping others, qualities that would define his life’s work. In his early years, he moved to the bustling city of Port Au Prince, where he took on the role of a mechanic. His hands, skilled and steady, repaired countless engines, earning him the respect and admiration of those he served. His work as a mechanic was not just a job but a reflection of his meticulous nature and dedication to his craft. Seeking to make an even greater impact on his community, Yvon later returned to his hometown of Thomassique and embraced a new role as a teacher. In the classrooms of Thomassique, he became a beacon of knowledge and inspiration for many young minds. His transition from mechanic to educator was a testament to his versatility and unwavering commitment to serving others. In 1998, driven by the desire to provide better opportunities for his family, Yvon immigrated to New York City. There, he found not only a new home but also a welcoming community at the Ebenezer Haitian Baptist Church, where he became a cherished member of the Men’s Choir and the Grand Choir. Singing in the choir was a source of great joy and spiritual fulfillment for Yvon, allowing him to express his deep faith through music. Yvon’s love for his church extended beyond singing as he also served as an announcer, a role in which he brought his warm, resonant voice to the congregation. Yvon later became a driver, working for Star Cruise Transportation, where he continued to demonstrate his unwavering work ethic. His passengers knew him not just as a driver, but as a man who cared deeply for their safety and comfort. His commitment to his work was unparalleled and after a long and fulfilling career, retired in 2020 and he moved to Indianapolis, ready to enjoy his well-deserved rest. A devoted husband, Yvon married Damide Clement Zidor, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Together, they raised three children, Jean Yves, Samsara, and Jim. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a selfless and loving father who always put the needs of his family before his own. His grandson, Zekiel, was his pride and joy, and the bond they shared was truly special. Yvon was a man of many qualities: hard-working, kind-hearted, and deeply faithful. His life was a testament to the power of selflessness and dedication. He touched the lives of many, not only through his work and service but through the simple acts of kindness that defined his character. Yvon is preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne and Jacque. His memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, children, grandson, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring Yvon Zidor’s life Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington Street.
