Virginia Hullinger

Virginia Hullinger, 83, of Indianapolis passed away March 14, 2017 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Virginia was born in Clinton, IN to the late Hazel and Edward Kinnaley. She was the youngest of eight children, all have preceded her in death. As a young girl she moved to Monroeville, IN with her family and was educated in the small northeastern Indiana community. Virginia graduated from Monroeville High School and soon met her future husband, a kind, shy sportsman Robert Hullinger. Following Robert’s service in the U.S. Army, the couple married in 1955 in Monroeville. In 1958, with Virginia expecting her first child, Robert accepted a promotion with Merrill Lynch, moving to Denver, CO as an operations manager. The Hullinger’s had two children, Jeffrey born in 1958, and Cindy in 1962. Their journey of marriage included parenting, travel and following their favorite sports teams. Virginia spent many happy years employed at Asbury Circle Nursing home in Denver as a medical records technician. The couple moved back to Indiana in 1979 when Robert joined Prudential Bache. Robert died of Leukemia in 1990 and Virginia continued her work in medical records at North Willow Nursing Home in Indianapolis. It is there she met and maintained many friendships. Virginia’s legacy can be seen through her children, grandchildren and now a great grandchild. All have been high achievers in their universities and career’s. Son Jeff, a 1980 graduate of Colorado State-Pueblo will be giving the commencement speech to graduates in May of 2017. He is the weeknight anchorman at the NBC station in Atlanta, GA and a member of the Emmy Hall of Fame (Silver Circle) in the Southeast. Jeff and his wife Kira have raised two children, Jeffrey, a teenager and Brittany, a school teacher in Annapolis, MD. Daughter Cindy, a graduate of Indiana University, has excelled in the medical profession. She has raised remarkable children, Ian, a graduate of the Air Force Academy, is a fighter pilot of 5th generation stealth AF jet. Jenna was a double major at Harvard and an All-American athlete. And now a new addition to the family, Ian and his wife, Viri, have welcomed baby Adrian recently. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in New Haven, IN, inside the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Jacqueline Kennedy once said, “if you bungle raising your children, I don’t think whatever else you do matters very much”. Virginia raised terrific children and in that sense her legacy is secure. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hooverwood Indianapolis Jewish Home, 7001 Hoover Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
