Thomas A. Hargett

52, of Fishers, Indiana, formerly of Evansville, passed awayMonday, June 27, with his family at his side. Tom was born August 11, 1958 in Atlantic City, NJ, to Dr. Isaac and Mary Ann Hargett (Barker). He graduated from Central High School, Evansville, IN, in 1976 and from Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 1980 with a B.S. degree. In 1983, Tom received an M.B.A. from Northwestern University�s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. For 12 years he held various positions in the brokerage industry. Tom graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 1994. Tom was a senior partner in the securities law firm of Maddox, Hargett & Caruso, P.C. In his legal practice, Tom specialized in securities fraud litigation. Tom made national headlines in 2002 when he represented a group of investors from Marion, Ohio. After a five-week trial, the Ohio court ruled against Prudential, awarding $250 million in punitive damages, which at the time was reported to be the largest U.S. jury verdict in a securities class-action suit. Tom was a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America and the Trial Lawyer Honorary Society. Tom was selected by his peers as an �Indiana Super Lawyer� in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Tom was a member of the Arbitration Panels of National Association of Securities Dealers and the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, where he served on the Federal Legislation Committee. Tom served on the board of directors of the Indiana Children�s Wish Fund (ICWF) since 2003 and most recently as Vice President of the Board of Directors of ICWF. In October 2010, Tom was the recipient of the Meagan Skinner Award in recognition of his years of community service for ICWF. Tom was past president of Indiana University Sigma Nu Housing Corporation and served on its Board since 2004. In 2010 he received the Herman B. Wells Alumni Leadership Award and was inducted into the Sigma Nu Beta Eta Chapter�s Hall of Honor. He was also honored by the National Fraternity as its� Housing Corporation President of the year. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Hargett (Barker) in 2001. Tom is survived by his wife, Dr. Denise Flanagan Hargett; son, Isaac; daughter, Erin, all of Fishers, IN. He is also survived by his father, Dr. Isaac Hargett and wife Jane Hargett of Evansville, IN; brothers, Bill Hargett (Tammy), of Evansville, IN, Joe Hargett, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tim Hargett (Nes), of Tulsa, OK; sisters, Mary Strobel (Jim) of Greenville, IN, and Amy Buehn (Sam) of Newburgh, IN; nephews, Will Hargett, Thomas Strobel, John Strobel; nieces, Sarah Meyers, Melissa Hargett, Lauren Strobel, Megan Hargett, Kadriye and Aliya Hargett, and Hannah Ubelhor. Tom loved to travel, play golf and attend a wide variety of sporting events. More than anything Tom loved spending time with his family and many friends. Tom�s ultimate love and enjoyment was being with his wonderful wife Denise and children, Isaac and Erin. Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Simon The Apostle Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Rd. The family would to thank Dr. Patrick Hwu and his staff at M.D. Anderson in Houston and St. Vincent Hospice of Indianapolis.
