Theresa "Terry" Lynn Garner

In Loving Memory of Theresa Lynn Garner August 9, 1952 ~ July 12, 2026 Theresa “Terry” Lynn Garner, 73, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026. Sher was born on August 9, 1952, to the late Anthony L. and Mary Ann (Brimberry) Miles. She married Steve Garner on August 9, 1975 and he precedes her in death. Terry was a graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and her master’s from Indiana University. She dedicated many of her years to education, serving as a principal at Center Grove Elementary and within Indianapolis Public Schools, where she made a lasting impact on countless students, families and colleagues. Terry maintained tremendous friendships throughout her lifetime. She and Steve enjoyed “Card Club” with close friends. She remained close to her college roommates. She loved going out to eat and spending time by the pool with her friends and family. In her retirement her greatest passion was to spend time with her grandchildren and raise her grandson, Franco. She leaves behind her two sons, Andrew (Naomi) Garner and Ryan Garner; her beloved grandchildren, Wyatt (Jada), Savana, Chloe, Ruby, Franco, Ryanlynn, Charlie and Malachi; and great-grandchild, Sloane. Additional survivors include her Aunt Shirley Fredrick and siblings, Hollis “Butch” (Lois) Becker, Tony (Julie) Miles, Brian (Kim) Miles, Gail Campbell and Annette Glackman. They will forever treasure the countless moments they shared with her. She is loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed. Though her presence will be greatly missed, her legacy of love, faith and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. A celebration of the lives of both Terry and her husband Steve will be held at the FOP Hall #86 on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Visitation for Terry will be held on August 1, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel, 3333 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franco Garner Guardianship Fund.
