Thelma W. Garrett

94, You were always ready to be with Jesus, but He said, �not yet my child�. Today, however, he said it�s time to come home with me. You went peacefully December 28, 2009. Thelma was born June 10, 1915 in Blackhawk, IN, to Otha and Myrtle (Norris) Sparks. She married Marion R. Engle on October 19, 1934, who passed away in 1969. To this union two children were born, Mrs, Nancy L. Neal (Ed), Indianapolis and Larry J. Engle (Dee), Farmersburg, IN. They also have a foster son, Marvin Snow (Nina), Waynesville, NC. Her sister, Mary L. Hendricks, Terre Haute, IN, also survives. A sister, Beulah Rose, preceded her in death. There are six grandchildren, David B. Neal (Kristin), Carefree, AZ, Keith A. Engle (deceased), Kathryn Ann Engle (deceased), Kevin Engle, Ninaveh, IN, Eric Snow (Natalie), Indianapolis, Mike Snow, Indianapolis; and six great-grandchildren, Shelby, Sierra, Keithie, Emily, Bailey, and Caden. Her second husband, Ralph Garett, also preceded her in death. Thelma was a homemaker and always dedicated herself to the well being of her family. She taught Sunday School for many years and loved working with children. She also taught a bible study for many years, and even though losing her eyesight a few years ago, she continued to teach with the help of Bible tapes, but due to her health had to discontinue the study group a few months ago. Thelma was a breast cancer survivor for 6 years, when it again appeared in 2008. She was a fighter and would not give up, continuing to live in her apartment until a week ago. But now she rests safely in the arms of Jesus. She was a member of Buck Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Buck Creek Christian Church, 3525 Senour Road, Indianapolis, 46239. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will immediately follow at Nyes Chapel, Farmersburg, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Buck Creek Christian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel.
