Sandra J. Platt Monroe

62, of Carmel, passed away March 12, 2011. Sandy was born on October 3, 1948, in South Bend, IN, to the late Orville A. and Helen McClintic Platt. She was raised in Monticello, IN, and therein shared all the experiences of small-town life. She delivered the Indianapolis Star, enjoyed fountain sodas, rode on the back of Corvettes in Homecoming Court, and danced with the bands at Indiana Beach. Her spiritual life began in the Monticello United Methodist Church. Sandy met the love of her life, Wayne A. Monroe in December of 1963, and they finally married August 2, 1969. She studied political science at the University of Louisville, and finished her degree at Purdue University. She was employed in pension administration with Aetna Life, and eventually became the owner of Pension Maintenance Corporation. In the 1990�s she took the position of Pension Administration Team Leader for American United Life, and finally left corporate life to home school her youngest daughter. In her spare time she was a part time instructor for the School of Business at IUPUI. Sandy was a devoted wife, and mother. She demonstrated daily the strength and practice of her faith in God and in Jesus Christ as Our Savior. After 35 years of marriage, Sandy converted from United Methodist to Roman Catholic. Even as a Roman Catholic, Sandy continued to participate in both the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and her former Carmel United Methodist Church. She was loved by family, friends, and many others that she was able to counsel throughout the years. Sandy lived life as a servant of others. Visitation will be Monday, March 14, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road, Carmel. Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Wayne A. Monroe; daughters, Barbara Monroe Goggins and Kendra Lee Lawson; grandchildren, Mona, Joshua and Noah Goggins; brother, William Platt; nieces, Jennifer and Brooke Platt; brother-in-law, Richard Aldridge; and nephew, Dennis Aldridge. Then sings my soul, My Savior God to Thee, How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art.
