Robert "Bob" Smith

Robert Joseph Smith passed away May 7, 2021. Known to friends as Bob and Bobby Joe to his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years. Bob is survived by his wife Patricia and 4 children. Alice Anne, Gregory (Cindy), Sarah Coudret (Chris), and Timothy (Erika). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren Lauren Maliszewski (John), Ryan Duzyk, Colin Duzyk, Tyler Smith(Malory), Valerie Smith, Emily Coudret (Thomas), William Coudret, Olivia Smith, and Owen Smith. Bob was born October 3,1939 to the late William and Catherine Smith in Huntington, WV. As one of 6 siblings Bob is preceded in death by Richard Smith and is survived by Patricia Bird Akron, OH, John Smith Huntington, WV, Ellen Captain Huntington WV, and Theresa Repass (Rex) Cincinnati, OH. Bob graduated from St Joseph High school in Huntington in 1957 and received his bachelor’s degree from Wheeling Jesuit College in 1961. He went to work for Inco Alloys International where he would work for 39 years as a sales manager. He and Patty had stops in Pittsburgh, Chicago and back to Huntington before retirement took them to Indianapolis. Bob was a devoted husband and father. In their 20 plus years in Pittsburgh Bob was always involved in family activities be it as coach or player, mentor or tutor and he also was always our grammatical expert. While in Pittsburgh Bob was a member of St Thomas Moore Church and was a long time Eucharistic Minister. Bob was an avid tennis player and golfer and in retirement he and Patty were hard to beat at pickle ball. Bob was very giving of his time. In retirement he volunteered at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He also developed a passion for woodworking. This would lead to hours in his shop where he and friends would make many things including toys each Christmas that were donated. Our family would like to express its profoundest gratitude to the staff members at Stillwater and Independence adult day centers in Indianapolis. Their tremendous caring ways were a blessing to Bob and our family. As husband, father, brother or friend, Bob was loved. He will be missed for his compassionate heart, warm smile and giving spirit. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 12th from 5-8 pm in the social hall at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic church. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 13th at Holy Spirit at Geist.
