Robert Grant Hampton

Robert Grant Hampton, Passed away peacefully Monday, August 4, 2014 surrounded by all five of his devoted children. Grant was born September 25, 1936 in Bedford, IN to the late Onis Frank and Violet Esther Thomas Hampton. He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School, Class of 1954 and entered the U. S. Navy where he started his career in electronics. After completing his four years with the Navy, Grant went to Ascension Island to work for a year. While home visiting his family during that year he met the love of his life, Nancy Ellen Turpin, and they were married February 5, 1961. Grant had a long successful career with Naval Avionics and later Raytheon. After retirement he enjoyed his various hobbies of flying, racquetball and ballroom dancing, but nothing was more important to him than his family. Always willing to lend a hand, he was called upon frequently for many family home improvement projects. Grant was preceded in death by his brothers, Onis Frank Hampton, Jr. and Kenneth Wayne Hampton; one sister, Joyce Kathleen Turpin; and his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy Turpin Hampton. Left to cherish many wonderful family memories are his five children, Kathy Hampton Swango Wilson (Grey), Sandra Hampton Bradley (Patrick), Bob Hampton, David Hampton (Martha), and Linda Hampton Johnson (Jeremy); eight grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole and Summer Swango, Rachel and Matthew Hampton, and Dallas, Jedi and Colt Johnson; a sister, Rosalyn Hampton Hert; and a brother, Joseph Mirl Hampton; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors, Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington St. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at New Palestine United Methodist Church on Gem Road, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Grant’s honor to the NPUMC Missions Ministry, PO Box 377, New Palestine, IN 46163. Please put Missions- Grant Hampton, on the memo line. Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of times you take breaths away. In that way, Grant led a wonderful life providing many breathtaking moments for his family and friends. He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his children who take comfort in knowing he is now resting with the Lord and reunited with their mother.
