Robert J. Boeglin

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away November 27, 2018. He was born August 21, 1928 in Ferdinand, IN, the son of the late Otto and Clara Boeglin. Bob attended Huntingburg High School where he excelled in academics and athletics. Bob began a lifelong association with Indiana University and graduated in 1950 from the School of Business. He was called to service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob was proud to have served as a Counter-Intelligence Agent in Europe where he worked to expose East European and Russian spies. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1953. After completing his military service, Bob met and married Mary Cain in 1955. He enjoyed a long and notable career in the fields of mortgage banking, municipal finance and financial consulting. Bob was also an active participant in a wide variety of trade and civic organizations, especially the Indianapolis Jaycees and the Service Club of Indianapolis. Bob’s love for Indiana University never wavered. He was very proud of his close association with I.U. Bob served as President of both the Kelley School of Business Alumni Association and the I.U. Men’s Club of Indianapolis. He is a member of the President’s Circle, Bill Mallory’s Twelfth Man Club, was an I.U. “Loyalist”, and a 50+ year member of the Hoosier Hundred. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Cain Boeglin; children, Kathy (Dr. Mike) Gradeless, Bob Jr., M.D. (Katherine Campbell), Dan, Connie (Craig) Martin and David. He leaves twelve grandchildren, Robert (Caiti Smith) and Ray Gradeless, Alex, Jack and Rosemary Boeglin, Cliff, Ted (Michele), Will and Claire Boeglin, and Dr. Tom, Kathy and Cindy Martin; and brothers, Tom (Betty) and Jim (Jan) Boeglin. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jo (LeRoy) Schipp and Ann (Charlie) Metzger; and brothers, Jack (Dolores) and Joe (Betty) Boeglin. The entire Boeglin family wishes to extend immense gratitude to the professionals at Fresenius Kidney Care in Fishers for the tremendously dedicated and loving care shown to Bob during the course of his treatments. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd. A funeral service will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
