Marcella Sally Kantner Jones

Marcella �Sally� Kantner Jones, RN,85, of Indianapolis, passed away July 7, 2008. She was born February 11, 1923 to Joseph and Elizabeth Uhlenhake of St. Henry, OH. Marcella was in the 1946 graduating class of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Dayton, Ohio. She acquired post graduate training in surgical nursing and was the administrator of Union City Hospital. Marcella worked as a staff and surgical nurse for over 55 years, serving many hospitals throughout Indianapolis, including Community East and Riley Children�s Hospital. She co-founded and held the position of Administrator for the RN Registry of Private Duty Nurses, which provided staff relief and private duty services employing over 200 Registered Nurses. Marcella was a charter member of St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, and a member of the VFW #261 Women�s Auxillary. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Colts, Pacers, IU, Purdue and Notre Dame, especially her children and grandchildren�s sporting events. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., with a special service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, 5333 E. Washington St., Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. Survivors include daughters, Pamela Kantner, Cynthia Eckert (Chuck), Katherine Kantner (Deborah Pearlman), Geri Pearson, Mary Zimmerman (Jerry), Julia Kantner; son, John Kantner (Donna); grandchildren, Alissa Gibbs and Elizabeth Pearson, Evan and Juliet Eckert, Katherine Newlin, Jared Kantner, Amanda Zimmerman, Morgan Kantner, Gage Hall, Marcie Kantner, Amy Zimmerman, Heather Smiley, Jonathon Zimmerman and 10 Great-grandchildren. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John H. Kantner; second husband, Marvin E. Jones; daughter, Teresa Ann Kantner; brothers, Bernard and Harold Uhlenhake; sisters, Edna Mader, Alice Bennett, Betty Mader, Addie Delzeith. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Youth Organization, 580 E. Stevens St., Indianapolis, _____. Sally�s heart and her home were always a welcome place for all who knew her, she was a special mother to many and she shall not be forgotten.
