Manley Kjonaas

Manley Kjonaas, 101, of Indianapolis, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2018. He was born February 23, 1917 in Starbuck, MN, to Henry and Aase Amelia (Knudson) Kjonaas. He attended Starbuck High School and graduated from Grandview High School, WA, in 1936. He then attended Northwest Nazarene University before graduating from Washington State University in 1942 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Manley worked for 33 years as a chemical engineer for Sinclair Research and Development Labs (ARCO) in Harvey, IL, where he was responsible for several patents. Manley married Phyllis Markham of Pullman, WA, June 1, 1942, and together they had three children and were married for over 75 years. He enjoyed wood working, travel and antique cars. He was also actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Manley was active in several churches including Hammond (IN) First Church of the Nazarene, Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene, and East 91st Street Christian Church. He was also a member of Gideons for many years. Manley is survived by his beloved wife; children, Diane Bensch, Judith (Bob) Paine and Wayne (Debbie) Kjonaas; grandchildren, Terri (Mike) Hadrick, Eric (Lina) Spross, Craig (Rosalie) Spross, Nathan (Tara) Bensch, Kiersti (Matt) Cunningham, Tim (Kacy) Bensch, Ben Bensch, Kristen Bensch, Immani Paine and Kenyetta Paine; and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Aidan, Michael, Madeliene, Quinlyn and Alexis. He is proceeded in death by his parents; twin brother, Melvin; siblings, Tilda, Tilford, Hazel and Clara; and sons-in-law, Louis Spross and Bill Bensch. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at East 91st Street Christian Church, 6049 East 91st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
