Judith Ann Koehler Spooner

Judith Ann Koehler Spooner, 77, of Brownsburg, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019, surrounded by her children. She was born Feb. 5, 1942 to James LeRoy Koehler (1919-1973) and Mary Louise Ashbaugh Koehler (1921-1997) in New Bern, North Carolina. The Koehler’s moved back to Ohio where Judith was raised in Columbiana, OH. After graduating from Columbiana High School in 1960, she went on to Secretary’s School in St. Paul, MN, where she was a nanny while going to school. Her first secretarial job upon completion was at the CIA in VA. She later moved to West Palm Beach, FL and stayed in the FL and the GA area for many years before heading north to NJ in 1988. During her time living in West Palm Beach, FL she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She stayed active throughout her life and every ward she served in, she was called to be the Sacrament Chorister. She enjoyed this calling for over 25+ years. Professionally, she left secretarial work and found her real passion in food service as a Baker, Cake Decorator and Deli Manager. She moved to Brownsburg, IN in 2001 to be closer to her youngest daughter, Jenn Cox, and her family. She retired from Walmart in the Deli/Bakery in 2011. Having been afflicted with Alzheimer’s, Judith lived the last years of her life at Brownsburg Meadows and Brownsburg Healthcare Center Memory Care Units, keeping everyone entertained with her love of music, sass and sense of humor. She loved visits from her family and when the music guys came to sing. You could always find Ms. Judy strolling the halls with her walker or dancing to the music. Ms. Judy, as she was called in her later years, was a delight to be around. Her spirit kept her going even while her mind was afflicted with this terrible disease. She is survived by her daughters, Kristen (Rick) McCutcheon of Knoxville, TN, Beth (Hermelindo) Spooner-Chon of Hamilton, NJ and Jennifer (Chris) Cox of Brownsburg, IN; brother, Jim (Marty) Koehler of Syracuse, NY and his children; 10 grandchildren (Bobby, Cammie, Jacob, Joshua, Tracy, Nikki, Jasmine, Sydney and Bridget); and 4 great-grandchildren (Amyia, Gavin, Adalynn and Emma). She is preceded in death by her son, Charles W. Spooner, Jr. (1968-1995); grandson, Marcus; and her parents. Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10518 CR 600 N, Indianapolis, IN 46112. Interment will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley Brothers Mortuaries.
