Joseph Reek

95, of Indianapolis, passed away January 20, 2013. He was born in Indianapolis on September 2, 1917, to Joseph and Gertrude Dietz Reek who were Dutch immigrants. Joe graduated from Tech High School in 1935. He later served his country as a Captain of the U.S. Army under General George S. Patton during the European Theater, North Africa. Joe and his wife, Ada (Behrmann) were married in Indianapolis in 1947. Joe was employed by East End Dairies and Borden Milk Company within their accounting division, retiring as their area office manager after 45 years. After retirement, he was a part time accountant/purchasing manager for Beeco, Inc. for over 25 years. During the last 6 years of his life, Joe became a victim of macular degeneration, but faced it with courage and positive acceptance. He enjoyed books on tape daily, provided by Bosma Industries. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, where he was involved and held several offices. Joe and Ada traveled throughout the United States over their years together. They visited Europe and specifically Holland to see the birth places of Joe�s parents in the tiny village of Hoorn and to spend time with cousins and other distant relatives. In 2000, Joe returned to Holland on a week-long trip to visit with relatives again, but this time with all his children. He always related that this particular trip was one of his most cherished experiences. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ada Reek; sons, J. Dirk (Barbara), Reek of Lincoln, Nebraska; Eric J. (Martha) Reek of Evansville, Indiana; Joseph A. Reek of Carmel, Indiana; Neal E. (Maryellen) Reek of Phoenix, Maryland; and daughter, Nancy L. (Tom) Weisenbach of Fishers, Indiana. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive him. His sister, Gertrude preceded him in death as well as his grandson, John Reek. Visitation will be Tuesday (TODAY), January 22 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. and Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46203 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
