Jerrie Josephine Scott

Jerrie Josephine Scott, 84, passed away peacefully March 11, 2010 in Bangor, Maine. Jerrie was born in Indianapolis, April 4, 1925 to Fred and Evelyn (McFerren) Taylor. Jerrie grew up in Irvington, on the eastside of Indianapolis where she met the love of her life, George, when she was just 12. She graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1943 and continued correspondence with her high school sorority, The Sharmes, throughout her life. She married George in 1944 at Camp Howze in Gainesville, Texas before he shipped out to war. She loved to tell the story of being the only woman at her wedding. Jerrie�s family was her life. She provided unconditional love and support to her own children and grandchildren, and she welcomed countless others into her heart, home, and life. When she met someone new, they were never a stranger for long. She focused on others, putting their needs above her own and always saw the good in everyone. Jerrie loved telling jokes, watching movies, eating out, and going on road trips. She never missed an opportunity to call or send a card, and she even ventured into e-mail, Skype, and Facebook(or as she called it, �FaceSpace�) to connect with her many �special, precious treasures.� Her verbal slips, mangled punch lines, and mixed metaphors gave her friends and family some of the happiest memories of their lives. Jerrie was a lifelong member of Irvington Presbyterian Church. She sang bass with the White River Sound chapter of Sweet Adelines for 21 years and was named Sweet Adeline of the Year in 1992. She loved all kinds of music and attended American Idol Live last September. Jerrie had a robust love of life and never wanted to miss what was going on. She was always the life of the party, living life to the fullest until the end. She recently entertained all around her at Super Bowl and Mardi Gras gatherings. She was an intensely happy, cheerful, fun-loving woman who was loved by all she touched. Visitation will be Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. with funeral services Friday at 2:00 p.m. Jerrie is survived by her husband of 65 years, George R. Scott of Bangor, ME; children, Stephen L. Scott (Carol) of Bishop, CA, David B. Scott (Teresa) of Lynnwood, WA, Mary A. Scott (Lori Abell) of Indianapolis, and Laura J. Scott (James Thomas) of Hampden, ME; brother, James L. Taylor (Sally) of Richmond, IN; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters.
