Jeanine Carol (Rairdon) Fitzwater

Jeanine Carol (Rairdon) Fitzwater, Age 94 years passed away March 12, 2026 at Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home in Beech Grove, IN. She was born September 17, 1931 in Hammond, IN, to the late John Bernard and Marie Ivena (Henderson) Rairdon. At the age of 15, Jeanine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour believing in His death, burial and that His Heavenly Father raised Him from the dead. She was a former member of Franklin Road Baptist Church and a current member of Burge Terrace Baptist Church. Jeanine grew up in Indianapolis and was a 1949 graduate of Warren Central High School. Her class was known as the 49ers. After high school she attended Butler University majoring in journalism and was an honor student. Jeanine worked on the Collegian newspaper writing newspaper articles and setting linotype by hand. She was also a member of the Butler University Choir. Jeanine sang one season with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir under the direction of Izler Solomon. The choir and orchestra performed at the dedication of Clowes Hall on the Butler University Campus. Jeanine married Donald Eugene Fitzwater August 26, 1951, in Sweeney Chapel on the Butler University Campus, and he preceded her in death November 23, 2018. The couple moved to Peoria, IL, several years after they married, where Don studied Horology at Bradley University. After receiving his certificate in 13 months, they returned to Indianapolis, where they lived until they moved into Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home in 2016. They were happily married for 67 years. Jeanine enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years. Her daughter, Leisa was in her troops from Brownie to Senior Girl Scouts and the main reason she became a scout leader. She worked for 10 years as a teacher’s assistant for Warren Township Schools and later gave guitar lessons in her home for 15 years. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St, with funeral services there Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Jeanine is survived by her daughter, Leisa Campbell (Joey); son, David Fitzwater (Christine); and six grandchildren, Daric (Callie), Cassie, Daniel, Cara Fitzwater, Sean Campbell and Lora Treadway (Devin).
