Jean R. Neeley

Jean Rooney Neeley, 86 went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 22, 2019. She was born September 22, 1932 in Vincennes, IN to the late James and Estelle Rooney. She was married to James Barlow Neeley, February 6, 1954, and he preceded her in death December 7, 1978. Jean was employed with the IPS School Corporation and retired from Manual High School. Through the years, Jean served in many ministries at Meridian Church of God. She was as a member of the Board of Elders, Missionary Committee and served at a work camp in Guatemala, The Red Hat Society, Women’s Club President, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the Choir. Jean never met a stranger and if you talked with her long enough, you knew about her relationship with her God. During the summer, for many years, you would find Jean on the sidelines of a baseball, basketball, soccer or football game of one of her grandchildren. She was their best cheerleader, cheering them on to victory. Jean loved spending time with her family and friends. She made sure to keep in touch with her family. She wanted to find out what was happening that was good and bad in their lives so she could pray for them. Always encouraging them and closing their phone calls in prayer. Jean was a person that walked her talk, when it came to her Christian Values; never wavering from God’s truth. She was a very talented writer. Jean had the ability of capturing her most inner thoughts and documenting them so others could enjoy. With her ears tuned in with God, she had several short stories and devotions published by Guidepost. Additionally, she frequently had publications in the church newsletters. Jean will be truly missed. Jean is survived by her children, Diana Vick and Steven Neeley (Rebecca). Eight grandchildren Donald Vick (Kerry), Steven Neeley Jr (Krista), Michael Neeley (Abby), Tosha Vick, Justin Lawson, Joshua Lawson, Kasi Neeley Turner (Randy) and Jordan Lawson. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren. Also, survived by a brother, Donald Rooney (Linda), sisters Phyllis Morales (Manual) and Patricia Clossey. She is preceded in death by her children, Julie Lawson and John Neeley, sister Catherine McCready (Don). Visitation will be Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Meridian Church of God, 7800 S. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46217 In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to the Cerebral Palsy Association in honor of her grandson, Justin Lawson.
