James "Jim" Richard May

James “Jim” Richard May, 71, went home to be with his Lord on February 18, 2023. Born on February 5, 1952 in Columbus, OH, to the late John D. and Jean (Wolfe) May, Jim married Marianne Lucile Metcalf on August 16, 1975. Early in his career, he was an assistant pastor at Burge Terrace Baptist Church and a Greek professor for Indiana Baptist College, followed by 22 years as an exchange repair technician for AT&T. A loving and much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Jim always had a smile, kind word and joke for the people in his life. Those who knew him can attest that the jokes ranged from extremely corny to quite witty, but they always drew a laugh. Jim possessed a lifelong passion for cycling, and also took great joy in the pursuit of knowledge. He may have been the only person on earth to earn, chronologically, a bachelor’s degree in divinity, master’s degree in ancient Greek, associate degree in electrical engineering and master’s degree in business administration. He was always eager to discuss subjects ranging from Greek syntax to statistics to theology to the trajectory of technology over his lifetime. Jim constantly looked for ways to make sure people knew that he cared for them, from lovingly doling out dollar bills and childhood stories to his grandkids to making flash cards to learn names and personal details for his fellow warriors at Rock Steady Boxing. Visitation will be Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington Street, with funeral services there Monday at 10:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and available by clicking on the following link: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/1604418983 Jim is survived by his wife, Marianne May; brother, Tom Moore III; son, James (Elise) May; daughter, Melissa (Doug) Myers; and grandchildren, Owen Harder, Ava Harder, Sam Harder, Ezra May and Calvin May. He will be missed by all and his departure leaves the world a bit less warm and entertaining.
