James Jackson "Jack" Blevins

James Jackson “Jack” Blevins, 80, of Greenfield, passed away July 26, 2018. He was born October 18, 1937 in Jefferson, NC, to the late Stanley and Lucy Blevins. Jack married Martha G. Mooney, June 21, 1959, and was the owner/operator of Blevins Sign Painting for 55 years, retiring in 2014. He was a longtime member of Calvary Tabernacle. “Jack” was beloved by his family and friends and in their world a big hole was left with his passing. He was a positive man with one of his more memorable quotes being, “Keep looking up”. He had great faith in the God he served and was not ashamed to express that to anyone. Jack was blessed with so many talents. He never left a room without raising the spirits of the occupants with his unforgettable smile, his bear hugs, or warm handshakes. His stories were legendary and would keep you spellbound whether you were a grown up or a child. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, proof being with all the well worn photographs left in his wallet. In Jacks world, there were no strangers and he always grew his garden to share its bounty. There are so many wonderful things to be said about Jack and for those who were privileged enough to be loved by him, understand just what that means. Rest in Peace Jack, you will forever be remembered and loved. We can see you now in a healthy body whistling so beautifully as you always did on a mountain somewhere in heaven, being held by your mother and by your Savior. Until we meet again. Visitation will be Monday, August 6, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Tabernacle, 902 Fletcher Avenue. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha G. Blevins; children, Stanley J. Blevins (Sandra), Sundra R. Hinson (Todd) and Kurt W. Blevins (Colleen); grandsons, Edan James Blevins, Cade E. Blevins, Stuart W. Hinson (Alesia), Stanton W. Hinson, Kaleb W. Blevins, Trueman R. Blevins and Calvin H. Blevins; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah and Jackson; and sisters, Shirley Watson (Dean) and Anna J. Goodman. Six brothers; and two sisters, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
