H. Gene Pruner

H. Gene Pruner,Indianapolis, passed away Monday, February 12, 2007. Born April 30, 1928 in Indianapolis, he touched many lives in his 78 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Supply Sergeant in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. Gene graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and Butler University in 1950. Gene spent his entire career in the Insurance Industry. His first job after college was with New York Life. He then worked as a General Agent and Field Vice President for Aetna Life and Casualty from 1952 until 1983. He then founded MarketShare Financial in 1984 before retiring in 1994. Mr. Pruner held the designation of Chartered Life Underwriter and was known to many in his industry as a �pension expert.� He served as Chairman of Aetna�s General Agent�s Field Council, on the Butler University Alumni Board of Directors, and was named a �Kentucky Colonel.� He also served on the Board of Directors for Renaissance, Inc. and American Interinsurance Exchange. Gene was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Millersville Lodge and was a member of the Nora Sertoma Club, the Jaycees, the Exhausted Roosters and the Aetna Geyser�s Club. He was active with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Indianapolis as a Big Brother, a Board Member, and a Foundation Board Member. In his free time, Gene was a very good athlete and enjoyed many sports, especially baseball, football, basketball, and golf. Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sibyl Stone Pruner; four children, Jeff (Nancy), Janell (Tom Crawford), Jerry (Linda), Jill Beasley; and five grandchildren, Alison, Andi, Nick, Samantha and Tyler. His sisters, Lea Orange and Marvel Beninger, preceded him in death. Visitation will be held Friday, February 16 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Church at the Crossing, 9111 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, with funeral services following at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of his favorite charities that help children, such as the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Indianapolis, St. Jude Hospital, or the H. Gene Pruner Scholarship Fund at Butler University. The Pruner family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise of Carmel for the incredible care they provided over the past two years.
