Fines W. Young

Fines W. Young, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away January 7, 2017. Fines was born October 24, 1923, in Marshall, Arkansas, to the late Phillip J. and Etta Jane Shipman Young. Fines married Billie Jean Castleman, July 4, 1946. Fines was a man of strong faith, sharing the Word of the Bible with the world. He believed faithfully in God, family, and country. After serving in World War II in the Pacific as a United States Marine, Fines achieved the status of journeyman with Sheet Metal Union Workers Local #20 and served for over 50 years. A resident of Fairland, Fines and Billie Jean, the love of his life, raised two daughters, later engaging in the Simmental cattle trade and building many beautiful homes in the area. After retiring to Seminole, Oklahoma, Fines and Billie Jean returned to Shelbyville twenty years later to continue God’s work through Calvary Tabernacle, where they had been members since the late 70’s. Fines openly shared God’s Word at every opportunity, often offering a prayer, a hug, or an ear to a stranger in need. Fines fiercely loved his family, finding immense pride in the accomplishments of his daughters, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. Fines’ strength in life and his unending love of God will be missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Tabernacle, 902 Fletcher Ave., Indianapolis. Fines is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Billie J. Young; daughters, Randy Beth Stein and Rebecca Jean Matney; grandchildren, Corey Stein (Jodi), Carie Crafton (Randy), Jessica Griggs (Shane) and Matthew Matney; great-grandchildren, Laila Stein, Ava Stein, Ella Griggs, and Eli Griggs; and a son-in-law, Jerry Stein (Zetta). A daughter, Michael Jane Young; his five sisters, Delpha Bryant, Velma Peek, Iva Rossas, Floy Horton, and Opal Hilton, and three brothers, Doyle, Lloyd and Ed Young, preceded him in death. Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel.
