Donna L. Hewitt

Donna L. Hewitt, 66, of New Palestine, passed away July 26, 2016. She was born January 2, 1950 in Speedway, IN, to the late Raymond F. and Ruby Cecelia Brown Bailey. Donna was a 1968 graduate of Speedway High School. She began her career in education as a preschool teacher and then as a special education assistant with Warren Township School Corporation for 15 years, retiring in 2010. Donna was also a prior manager of the Frosty Boy Drive-In in New Palestine, IN and a member of New Palestine United Methodist Church. Donna was a thoughtful and generous friend to all. If you could assign a motto to her life, it would be to love unconditionally and laugh as often as possible. “Momma Hewitt” had an amazing sense of humor, a passion for people, and a sincere and highly contagious laugh. It was common for Donna not to be able to completely tell a story, with punch line included, without laughing. And if you were lucky enough to be close by in her attempt to explain what was so funny, you would find yourself entrapped in her web of laughter and too in tears before you knew it. Playing card games with Donna was always entertaining and somewhat predictable. With a pure heart and honest outlook on life, it was no surprise that Donna was unable to maintain her poker face. Win or lose, she simply enjoyed the time spent with those who appreciated her ability to keep the card game fun and about family. Donna was a bowler as well. She joined several local leagues and continued to bowl well into her adult life. If you didn’t know which lane she was on, all you had to do was follow the sound of laughter and look for the beautiful young lady holding an ice cold Coca-Cola. Donna appreciated time cuddling up with her dogs and working on one of the many intricate puzzles she kept in the family room. Her ability to see all of the abstract pieces and patiently assemble them, just as they were meant to be, was just a symbol of what her life represented. Donna possessed the gift to see all of the unique and different aspects of life and carefully put things together to create a beautiful setting for her friends, her co-workers, and her family. Her role as a mother truly was her most cherished and greatest accomplishment. There are no words that could appropriately describe her unwavering love for her children, "Kimmie and Scotter-Botter Bear", and the children she served in Warren Township. Donna’s generous smile, her unparalleled love for people, and her expressive laugh will be remembered and live on as she watches over all of us. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life at 5:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. Donna is survived by her children, Kimberly A. Russell (Channing) and Scott A. Hewitt (Jamie); grandchildren, Adrian Russell and Rebecca Hewitt; and a sister, Wanda Bower (Tom).
