Cora "Marie" McCafferty

age 96, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Hamilton Trace Assisted Living in Fishers, Indiana. Marie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 22, 1928, to the late Elbert and Annabelle (Snyder) Higgins. On April 2, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” McCafferty. Together, they celebrated 70 devoted years of marriage before his passing in December 2020. Sixty of those years were spent on Poplar Road in Irvington, where Marie cherished the many memories they made in the home with friends, neighbors and family. After graduating from Washington High School in Indianapolis, Marie worked eight years at L.S. Ayres, followed by twenty years as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Indianapolis during the 1960’s and 1970’s. She was a dedicated member of Trinity for over 70 years. Faith and family were first in Marie’s life. She couldn’t wait to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You didn’t have to ask twice for her to take a trip with her daughter and grandchildren or join a family dinner. A talented seamstress, she lovingly made many clothes for her grandchildren, which are now treasured by the great-grandchildren. Bill and Marie enjoyed traveling and sharing simple pleasures, including Friday night dinners with their longtime friends, Leo and Joan Singleton. Marie also loved playing bridge with her friends and watching sports with Bill. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, William McCafferty; her sister, Marybelle Higgins Lewis; and her brothers, Charles Raymond Kinsey, Lewis Curtis Higgins, Elbert Patrick Higgins and William Jack Higgins. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Michael) Trotta; grandchildren, Anne Marie Carson, Arden (Alex) Redding, Michael (Lindsay) Trotta, Kathryn (Gavin) Allen and Jennifer (Sean) Morrissey. Visits with her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Carson, Sydney, Ryan, Noah and Jackson Redding, Tilly Trotta, Owen and Simon Allen, and Charlie, Avery and Wyatt Morrissey brought her joy. The family wishes to thank Caprice Walker and the staff at Hamilton Trace Assisted Living for providing loving support for Cora Marie over the past eight years. You made Hamilton Trace home for her, and for that, her family is grateful. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8540 East 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
