Charles "Chuck" Willis Lugar, Jr.

Charles Willis Lugar, Jr. Known as Chuck to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Fishers, Indiana on July 19, 2026. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, companion, and dear friend to many, and his company will be greatly missed. Chuck Lugar was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 16, 1940 to Alta and Charles Lugar, Sr. He graduated from Indiana University, where he met his wife Carolyn (Lynn) Lugar. Theirs was a long and beautiful marriage. They raised three children and enjoyed many family vacations, boating on Geist Reservoir, fellowship at church, hunting and fishing, building a family cabin, and eventually welcoming the arrival of their eight grandchildren. Chuck had a distinguished career with D.A. Lubricant, and he was a proud member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge. After the passing of Lynn in 2007, he could be found volunteering regularly at his church’s food pantry and spending many Sundays with family. Chuck was perhaps best known for being someone who never knew a stranger. His ability to draw virtually anyone into an interesting conversation, with a well-timed joke or colorful story, will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to share his company. Chuck is survived by his three children, Charles Willis Lugar III (Chip), Wendy (Ruth) Lugar Russell, and Jennifer Alta (Lugar) Dailey, and their respective spouses, Lisa (Cain) Lugar, Tim Russell, and Byron Dailey. He is also survived by his dear companion of the last fourteen years, Bernice Harmeyer, whom his kids regard as family. In addition, Chuck is survived by his eight grandchildren, about whom he loved to brag, William Lugar, Megan Lugar, Emma Lugar, Zach Russell, Kate Russell, Sam Russell, Miles Dailey, and Nolan Dailey. Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Alta and Charles, Sr.; wife, Lynn (2007); and his brother, John Ralph Lugar (2025), who passed exactly one year prior to Chuck. A brief calling will be held Monday, August 3, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Road, Fishers. Private graveside services will be at Pond Grove Cemetery in Otterbein, Indiana.
