Arlen Keith Risley

81, passed away May 19, 2011. He was born December 25, 1929 to Dorothy I. and Wendell Risley. Judy, his love and wife of 57 years, preceded him in death January 20, 2007. Arlen served his country in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman from 1948-1952 during the Korean War, receiving several commendations, including the Presidential Unit Citation. Since the early 1950�s, Arlen was the owner and past president of Rogers & Co., Inc. of Indianapolis until health issues prompted retirement in 1986. He was a director of the Indianapolis Merchants Association, and also co-chairman of the Community Chest Fund for the city of Indianapolis. In the late 1960�s he served as the first president of the Indiana Chapter of the National Swimming Pool Institute. He later became the first Hoosier to serve on the N.S.P.I. Board of Directors, a position he held from 1973-1977. During that period, he and Robert Hall of Chicago, IL, sponsored the Annual National Risley-Hall Invitational Golf Tournament, an event held for 10 years in Chicago, bringing industry members together from all over the U.S. After retirement, Arlen and Judy purchased a home on Bear Lake, on Hilton Head Plantation, where he and Judy enjoyed his passion for golf as well as yachting aboard his 46 foot Chris Craft named �Miz Riz II�. He was a former member of Crooked Stick Golf Club, Oyster Reef Country Club, and the Skull Creek Marina and Yacht Club on Hilton Head Plantation. In 1993, they purchased a motor home and traveled all over the U.S. They purchased another home in Carmel, IN, where his grandchildren resided, but their hearts remained in Hilton Head. Poetry was a hobby of Arlen�s most of his life. In June of 2008, he was nominated by the International Society of Poets in Owings, MD, as �Poet of the Year� for a poem titled �My Reason� written for his wife Judy. Arlen is survived by his daughters, Lynne Martin (Ron) and Lisa Wetzel (Kenny) both of Cape Coral, FL, and Tracey Dufek (Gary) of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Michael Ayers, Chris Ayers (Melanie), Kristin Dufek, Lauren Dufek, Jason Wetzel (Kylie) and Courtney West (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Ayers, Alexis and Sydnie Dufek-Frost, Gage and Madalyn Wetzel, and Dylan West. There will be no services. Arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
