Amelia G. Galan

Amelia G. Galan, 94, was born on May 25, 1929, daughter to Manual and Ladislada (Lala) Garza in Mission, Texas. Amelia peacefully passed away on May 31, 2023. Amelia married Felix Galan on February 7, 1954 and together they raised six children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felix Galan Sr., and son, Rodolfo (Rudy) Garza, and daughter, Maria Diaz. Surviving children are Jose Garza, Julia Rivera, Juan Galan, Felix Galan, Jr., and Gerardo Galan. Amelia is also survived by 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. One of the most important days of her life was in 1968 when she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. After her baptism she and Felix spent a lifetime looking for Spanish speaking individuals to share a message from the Bible. Through their ministry they helped many learn about Jehovah and the hope that she held dearly, living forever in a paradise earth. Together they were instrumental in establishing the first Spanish speaking congregation in Lafayette, Indiana. Through these efforts Amelia and Felix gained an innumerable spiritual family; all who loved her dearly. Even in her advanced years Amelia held strong her belief in Jehovah. Every morning she and her daughter, Julia, would consider the daily scriptural text. While she couldn’t attend her cherished Christian meetings in person, she would make an effort to attend the meetings virtually through Zoom. Amelia’s love for Jehovah, love for her family and love for her fellow Jehovah’s Witness is what she will be most greatly remembered for. She was happiest when her home was full of family and friends from the congregation and was cooking for them. Not to be forgotten is her amazing Mexican food and her tortillas, rice, and of course, her famous tamales. Mom, you will be dearly missed by your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and the hundreds of your fellow brothers and sisters in the faith.
