Adrienne Thompson Teuscher

Adrienne Thompson Teuscher, age 85, of Westfield, IN, left us on Tuesday, March 24, after a year and a half-long battle with lung cancer. She was a true warrior in her fight and fought with a smile and positive attitude. Adrienne was born in Oak Park, IL to the late Harry and Jane (Nolan) Thompson. She spent her childhood days in Chicago, IL with her parents, brothers (Scott and Richard), and her sister, Jan. Adrienne graduated from Taft High School in January 1958 and then chose to continue her education at Caroll College in Waukesha, WI. Adrienne was a cheerleader at both Taft and Carroll. While at Caroll and the years following, Adrienne was active in the Chi Omega sorority. On February 4, 1961, Adrienne married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Teuscher. Dick and Adrienne met at Taft and began dating in 1956. They were blessed to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this past February. They built a wonderful life with their three daughters, living in multiple cities and states along the way. With each move, they made more friends, many of whom remained friends over the years. They settled outside of Chicago in a suburb called Vernon Hills in 1974. While in Vernon Hills, Adrienne began a job as a P.E. teacher’s aide at Hawthorn Jr. High. She loved that job and the amazing staff at Hawthorn. She very much enjoyed having something that was “all her own”. In 1985, she and Dick moved to Ft. Myers, FL to pursue their dream of owning their own business. They opened Sir Richard’s – a retail cigar, tobacco and collectible gifts store. In typical fashion, they quickly became lifelong friends with neighbors in Ft. Myers, and their customers and staff became their family. It was not unusual to find a table full of complete strangers at their table for Thanksgiving. All were welcome. In 2005, Dick and Adrienne moved to Fishers, IN, just northeast of Indianapolis. Adrienne worked for TJ Maxx while they lived in Fishers. She thoroughly enjoyed working there, slowly decreasing the number of hours she worked overtime. She was still working 12+ hours/week when she retired at age 80! Adrienne had a very adventurous spirit. There was nothing she wouldn’t try at least once, including trying to walk on stilts! She loved antique and thrift store shopping with her best friend and was an avid reader. Some of her other favorites included daisies, tomatoes, musicals, avocados, doing jigsaw puzzles (I swear she was the best puzzle builder around!) and doing crossword puzzles. Up until her final days, you could find her on her tablet playing brain games. Adrienne is survived by her daughters, Kathy Barrett (Rick), Suzy LaGrippe (Victor), Barb Hallam (Jeff); grandchildren, Tory LaGrippe (Wesley), Sam Hallam, Alex LaGrippe, Jenna Barrett, Joe Hallam, Peter Hallam (Halle), Nate Hallam; great-grandson, Jackson Hallam; sister, Jan Jones (Jim), sister-in-law Diana Thompson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Teuscher; father, Harry Thompson; mother, Jane Thompson (Nolan); brothers, Scott and Richard Thompson. Adrienne always said that once she passed on, she would come back as a butterfly. So, whenever you see a butterfly, smile, it’s Adrienne stopping by. The family will plan a Celebration of Life for both Dick and Adrienne to be held in Indianapolis this summer. Final arrangements and care are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
