Vivian Marguerite Miller

Vivian Marguerite Miller 87, of Indianapolis, passed away October 17, 2014. She was born July 12, 1927 in Ashville, NC to the late Kenneth and Geraldine Baughman McWilliams. Vivian was employed with Naval Avionics as a clerk and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel, 4565 E. 10th St. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, 940 N. Wallace St. with visitation one hour prior to services. Vivian is survived by her loving children, Cheryl Sanna, James Miller, Robert (Julie) Miller, Kenneth (Paula) Miller, and Jane (Donald) Carter; 30 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, John Miller; sons, Williams and Thomas Adams; a daughter, Claudia Adams; and a sister, Marian Bright. The Piano It was a lovely piano. A spinet. It fit several places in my living room or dining room. I loved it as a piece of furniture, but most of all because I could see our family gathered around it singing together and loving the music. What fun it would be to be enjoying music together. And I could imagine one of the children playing it and getting such joy from knowing how. Perhaps I could even learn to play it. So, came piano lessons and practicing and complete uninterest in the beautiful piano. And as they were learning I tried to learn from their rather inept teachers to play myself. I got so I could pick out tunes and could look at a piece of music and see where C was. Never got to the point where I could make both hands work together like you should do in order to play. Pixie never cared about the piano so then we tried dancing lessons. But she was such a lovely little sprite that she didn't need lessons. I saw her at the head of a column of teenagers teaching them the Pony. Formal dancing was never needed. Bill was the only one who would ever have used the piano. He did begin to learn to play. And then in his Senior year at high school he decided he would like to go into music, so he began in earnest to learn to play. But then came his love affair and soon he was married and had two lovely little boys and was so busy with life that he set the music aside. His talent would wait. Right now was the time for his little boys. Tom wanted to use all the ideas that were blooming in his fine mind. He wanted to go to college and on a mission for the church. His children would end up the piano players through the encouragement and influence of their lovely mother Molly. Jim had fine hands and could work so well with them, but the piano wasn't one of the ways he wanted to use them. He could work with tools like his dad and could teach others how. And always be the leader of his group at work. Bob's compassionate spirit - he should have been a doctor. But his eyes didn't see the words and 'music right and it was torture for him to try to read. Ken did better on the exercise bench that he did on the piano bench. He wanted a strong, healthy body so he could work at whatever he chose. Beautiful Jane's capacity for love filled her whole being. Her husband and her children are such happiness to her that she is fulfilled. What would you say, honey if! gave the piano away? "The piano has always been yours, sweetie. Are you sure you want to give it away?" Yes, I do, I want to give it to someone who will use it. Who will give piano lessons on it. Who will practice for the choir on it. Who will use it to gather her family around it and sing together. Who will be able to teach ber children to play on it. "What about the grandchildren?" I don't want any of them to think I favor one over the other. They are all so special in their own ways. Bill would have been the one to have the piano, because he wanted to teach music. But he is gone now. "Then give it away sweetie." ________________________________________
