Karen Kaye Mielock

Karen Kaye Mielock, born on September 26, 1946, in West Branch, Michigan, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved daughter of the late Bernard and Stella Fegan and was raised in Prescott, where she excelled academically, graduating as Salutatorian of her high school graduation class at Whittemore- Prescott Area Schools. Karen and Charles “Chuck” John Mielock were married, August 2, 1969 and shared a beautiful marriage that spanned over 55 years, during which they were not only life partners but also the best of friends. Their marriage was an inspiration to their children, Lisa and Amy, serving as a shining example of commitment, partnership, and enduring love. Karen was one of eight siblings, and her life was a testament to the values of family, faith, and education. Her five grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found her greatest joy in their company, always nurturing, teaching, and loving them unconditionally. Family was the heart of Karen’s world, and her devotion to them was unwavering. Karen had a lifelong passion for education and early childhood development. She pursued her love for teaching by earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in literacy from Central Michigan University. While at CMU, she served as President of the Elementary Education Council and was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, where she forged lifelong friendships. Karen was deeply committed to reading with children. For over 20 years she taught Kindergarten, second grade, and reading in the Midland Public Schools. She spent countless hours reading with her children, grandchildren and volunteering to read with students, sharing her love of books and learning. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom, as she actively volunteered in her community and was involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, always there to support and encourage them. Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Chuck, as well as her loving daughters Lisa Kaye (Chad) Powers and Amy Lynn (Matthew) Theophilus, cherished grandchildren Elle, Ainsley, Larsen, Marin, and Declan; and her siblings Colleen Wolfe, Donnalee Fegan, Eileen Collins, Bernard (Kate) Fegan, Rodney (Ila) Fegan and Cathy (Ken) Berthiaume and brother-in-law Gary (Kathy) Mielock. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart. Karen was preceded in death by her beloved brothers William and Kenneth Fegan and her brothers-in-law Ralph Wolfe, Emmit Collins, Phil Mielock, and her sisters-in-law Delores Mielock and Margaret Mielock whose memories she carried with her always. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of the Holy Spirit at Geist Parish, Karen lived her faith daily, imparting values of love, kindness, generosity and compassion to all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, IN) preceded by visitation at 10:00 am. The Committal Service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at The Chapel at New Calvary Cemetery, 2743 East Bombay Road, Midland, MI 48642. Karen’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her career as an educator, her family, and her community. She will be remembered for her wisdom, warmth, and unshakable faith. She is deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she enriched. May she rest in eternal peace.
